I DREAM
Through implementation of the 40 developmental assets and the MBA's holistic approach to basketball your child will be exposed to positive adult role models. IDREAM will focus on physical, emotional, and academic growth of your child by increasing self esteem while building a sense of purpose through the community. Read about the 40 developmental assets here.
Introduction – Grades K-1: Children will be placed on teams of 8 and will be coached by MCC trained parent volunteers. Participants will focus on basketball basics (dribbling, passing, shooting, defense) through a variety of creative games and activities. The first four weeks of the league will be strictly games and skills. The last three weeks will be ½ hour of skills and drills and a ½ hour of an actual game setting. This league is designed to lay the foundation for future basketball and overall athletic growth.
Develop – Grade 2: Development is the key to this league. Growing and expanding on existing basketball knowledge will be the focus of this league, regardless of how little or how much the player already knows.
Refine – Grade 3: Refining the player’s fundamentals and polishing his or her game as they prepare for the next level.
In the 4th-6th grade leagues, teams will be split into “White” and “Blue” divisions, based on overall team skill. The divisions were created in order to ensure league parity and overall team and individual enjoyment.
Enrich – Grades 4-6: Adding the necessary team and individual elements to the player’s game to increase their overall basketball skill and prepare them for both school and MCC run leagues.
Advance – Grade 7 and 8: Advance your game one step further and begin preparing for both the next level of basketball. (Please see brochure for additional information on 7-12th grade leagues.)
Mentor – Grades 9-12: While in Community Center Leagues for grades 9-12, kids will be given the opportunities to help develop both themselves and the youth of Midland through creative mentoring opportunities. Individuals will be able to sign up to coach, officiate and mentor kids in the very same program they grew up participating in. (Please see brochure for additional information on 7-12th grade leagues.)
